
Andrew Carpenean is a photojournalist working in southeastern Wyoming since April 2007. During his career he has been chief photographer at three of four newspaper publications also working in Colorado, Oregon and Oklahoma. Carpenean also freelances with the Associated Press and US Presswire. At 17 he became an assistant to a Denver Post photographer later studying commercial and fine art photography at the Art Institute of Colorado. His first job in photography was freelancing for United Press International.
Carpenean has won more than 40 awards for his images in either state, regional or national competitions. Award coverage includes breaking and general news, features, photo essays and sports. Carpenean has an excellent perception of what would make a great photograph in an ordinary situation with strengths in composition and lighting.
Assignments range from Cheyenne Frontier Days to collegiate and professional sports to community and cultural based events. Carpenean's photography has been published in national syndication and periodicals including ESPN, Time, Latimes.com, MSNBC.com, Newsweek, Seattletimes.com, Sports Illustrated, Washington Post Camera Works and USA Today.
Carpenean enjoys a small town atmosphere situated outside of a major city as most of his work has been done in smaller markets.
